What is the Arab Nationalist movement?
The Arab Nationalist movement led by Nasser was made with the purpose of eradicating western influence from Arab land. Gamal Abdel Nasser also had the motive of unifying all the Arab lands, and getting rid of Israel. Arab- Nationalism promoted cultural, linguistic and religious beliefs, but however was unable to achieve the goal of pan-Arab unity.

The beginning and spread of Arab-Nationalism
-President Nasser believed that it was Egypt's duty to promote Arab-Nationalism
-Although he was the leader in Egypt, he provided leadership for Arab- Nationalism
-Nasser fought for total destruction of Israel and introduced many new socialist methods
-In states that gained nationalism after World War II, Arab nationalism became more prominent
-Although there were different forms of nationalism, they were all based off of the religious force of Islam
-Arab nationalism could be seen in Libya , Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq
-The main purpose of Arab Nationalism was to rid any European or U.S. influence
Arab Disunity
-They were unable to achieve pan-Arab unity
-Although Arab lands shared a common language and religion, there were too many differences to overcome
-Differences in alliances with the U.S. or the Soviet Union was a big factor in not being able to achieve unity
-Other problems included differences in governing style, and different religious divisions
